When using a high-voltage ring main unit (HV RMU), sometimes it cannot be closed during the closing process. How to solve this problem?
Solution: The protection function must be deactivated before each closing operation of the HV RMU to complete the closing successfully. The term "dry-type" for HV RMUs is a designation corresponding to oil-immersed transformers, and it applies to transformers with non-liquid insulation.
The reason why the protection function needs to be deactivated before closing is related to the protector on the transformer. For some electronic protectors, the state of the internal contacts in the unpowered state is opposite to the initial state after being powered on. In other words, the contacts are normally open when the instrument is energized, but become normally closed when the instrument loses power—this is the same state as after a protection action is triggered. When closing the high-voltage switch, it is defaulted to a protection action state, so the switch cannot be closed. The protection function must be deactivated to allow closing. This is the cause of the HV RMU's failure to close, and the problem can be solved simply by deactivating the protection function.
